downstairs

this basement's special because of the sneaky way the sun comes in through the holes. and because of the funny little corner we called the Secret Garden. and because it was where we ran downstairs to play.

sea-ness

it was my very first yabi- palm sized and glistening, greeny-purplish with little rainbow glints glancing all over its shell

bruckyere variations

this was when I first came across Berlinde de Bruckyere's work- breathtakingly poignant. It sparked off a series of mixed media drawings..

Horse mask

for utami's short film 'Doppelganger': horsemask, stylized in a pointy way to resemble utami's original drawing, was made from papier mache

we made other bits and pieces of costumes as well- and the actors and actresses were great sports. Notwithstanding horsemask's size, its actor actually danced and sang. This mean feat surely deserved a medal of some kind, as horsie's interior wasn't particularly soft...

home floor

this is what I saw in recurring dreams: wandering around my home floor and places around my block, and everywhere was suddenly so empty, so devoid of people, that you could hear the strange stillness...

oriole

litho stone- in various stages

with a luscious drizzle of gum arabic...

After wiping off the actual drawing and inking the etched stone up, all that black just blossomed out.

more previous drypoints

nenek's portrait

this is the chinese peony pattern for nenek's portrait base...it's a matte woodcut relief print with a drypoint over it. the woodcut provides the texture (sort of worn-floral-sofa flaking); the drypoint puts the lines in and gives a glowing sheen (because of the oil-ink)

several kinds of sticking papers did not work

but the problem of not being able to print the smallest type was solved by a wonderful 100p yellow mesh ..
this lets you have finer 'pixels' on your screen stencil.
